Dormont LGBTQ Committee
Pittsburgh is known as a positive place for members in the LGBTQ community, and Dormont is no exception. The development of Hate Free Dormont has created the LGBTQ branch of DCDC. We're a nonprofit group that wants to focus on growing and encouraging the development of safe places and activities for the queer community by reaching out to businesses and welcoming allies to join us.
Pride
This past summer we co-hosted the biggest pride event in Dormont's history. Along with Dormont Arts, we shut down Potomac Ave for a day filled with food, drinks, music, artists and various support services for the LGBTQ community. We wanted to create an event where families felt like they could gather and bring their kids to learn and celebrate. And boy did we! Our volunteers were mostly high schoolers and many parents joined in to show their support. We donated a stack of books to the library after having our first Drag Queen Story time. From the moment we closed down the street til we opened it back up, Potomac was an explosion of rainbows and love.
